Annals of Dublin

Searchable transcripts of the Annals of Dublin extracted from Thom’s Directories. These may be browsed by page, century and decade, or searched by keyword, and are a type of bullet point history listed towards the back of the directories. Similar lists also appear in various other directories such as Pettigrew & Oulton, Treble Almanac, Watson’s directory etc. Many of the entries are simple one line entries but are more detailed in later years and include fires, battles, Royal visits, ‘inundations’, commencement of various buildings, collapses, plagues, mentions of the river Liffey freezing over etc. See : Annals of Dublin Database

The earlier entries in these listings apparently derive from the work of the 17th century Irish historians Sir James Ware and his son Robert. The data included in this collection covers up to December 1942.
